North Arm Cove Stitchgatherers Craft Group ‘Biggest Morning Tea’ will be held on Saturday 4 May at the Community Hall.

The tea cosy competition was a huge hit last year and it’s on again, so start looking for ideas. Your tea cosy doesn’t have to be knitted or sewn, feel free to use any technique you like and let your imagination run wild. There will be prizes in various categories, plus a grand prize for the overall winner.

A highlight of the day will be a display of wearable art. Wearable art...

The Stitchgatherers group

Fourteen ladies from the Stitchgatherers group wined and dined in style at Lillies and Limes Morpeth to celebrate their last meeting for 2012. After lunch the group posed in front of the completed Balloon quilt, which will soon be delivered to Ronald Mcdonald House.

The restaurant was privately booked, so the ladies could "let their hair down". Conversation was lively (and loud) and the food excellent. It was a very enjoyable day, ending with a bit of Christmas shopping at the many Morpeth specialty stores.

Stitchgatherers many skills include knitting and quilting

It’s been a busy year for the Stitchgatherers group. They have finalised some outstanding projects and their knitted squares blanket is nearing completion. Aside from the various projects undertaken by the group each year, members bring their own work to the meetings. Their skills cover a wide range of handcrafts, including embroidery, quilting and knitting. Many of the finished items will be on display at the Biggest Morning Tea next...

Knitting enjoys a revival

The art of knitting, once seen as more of a pastime for ‘grannies’ is now enjoying a revival thanks to the resurgence in popularity of handcrafted goods and the influence of craft shows and events like the Morpeth teapot and tea cosy festival.

Ask any of the ladies at the Stitch Gatherers group and they’ll tell you that knitting is a wonderfully relaxing and creative pastime. It is a positive joy to make something with your own hands - to be worn yourself or given to others. Charities are also benefiting from the knitting revival...

Residents enjoy the eventAnnie44Tue, 10/07/2012 - 11:21am
A great turn out for the event

The Biggest Morning Tea held in May was a great success and raised just on $1400 for the NSW Cancer Council of NSW. Organisers are now hoping that next year's event will be even bigger and better.
