Mid Coast Council have voted to rescind tree protection orders at the September meeting 2018.

Consultations have not been declared as yet and the current tree protection orders are still in place. See the notice on Mid Coast Council website. Community's Chance to Comment.

Meanwhile the preservation orders are still in place and residents should make sure that they are clear about restrictions. See Tree Removal and Preservation.

Note that the following trees are preserved and that deal trees also need approval for removal.

Floating cages on OL86/140

Last autumn most of the derelict posts on OL86/140 were removed. Last week the oyster farmer returned and installed a line of floating cages perpendicular to the shore on the southern part of the lease.

Tony H was out in his tinny and spoke to the oyster farmer. He was told that the oyster farmer intends to start using the lease and that the floating cages will look better than the previous derelict posts. What was not mentioned is that the cages float and that they will be visible all the time, not just on low tide.

One of the biggest threats to the security of our village comes from the vandalistic burning of cars in the bush around our village. The number of burnt-out car bodies is on the rise and there have been vehicles found alight no more than a few hundred metres from the village.

In the short time span required for a fire to spread to our village, the fire services would have little chance of attending to save lives and property.

More information is available on the website : http://www.epa.nsw.gov.au/your-environment/native-forestry/integrated-forestry-operations-approvals/coastal-ifoa.

An announcement was made recently by the MCC that a decision had been made by Councillors to remove tree and vegetation controls from the Great Lakes Development Control Plan at their September meeting.

This statement has resulted in much confusion and, I suspect, the recent escalation of chainsaw activity in the village.

I have spoken to Josh Duncombe, Tree Management Officer at Forster, for clarification. The Council is legally obligated to follow a process which includes community consultation before the DCP covering tree preservation can be amended. This will take some time.

Meanwhile the existing controls remain...
