Some enthusiastic members of our brigade have been participating in intensive training to further enhance their skills and strengthen the Brigade's fire fighting abilities.

We have two fully trained bushfire recruits in Luke Ward and Robert Leslie – thanks and congratulations to them. Bev Hughes, Ben Hughes, John Aaltonen and Luke Mansfield have successfully completed training as village fire fighters, and Bev and Luke Mansfield have also completed first aid certificates. This is a great effort.

Six new hand-held radios have been purchased for use in the field, these will...

This coming Saturday (given suitable conditions) the NAC RFS Brigade will be carrying out a hazard reduction burn from behind the Community Centre down towards Promontory way and Beauty Point. Several other Brigades will be assisting. Anyone who suffers distress from smoke should perhaps go out for the day, to avoid adverse reactions. This is the first in a series of HR's planned so hopefully the weather will stay kind.

The hazard reduction burn set for the weekend of 4th/ 5th May has been postponed, due to the fact that four members of our brigade will be undergoing assessment to become village firefighters(house fires). Residents will be notified of the new date as soon as it is known. Any smoke seen on Saturday to the north of the village will be members doing a small test burn to check if the bush is dry enough to successfully burn. All this of course is dependent on weather conditions, especially rainfall.

The month of March saw some activity for the Brigade. We attended the Motor Show at Hawks Nest, a car fire, an MVA (motor vehicle accident) and assisted Tea Gardens Brigade at a hazard reduction burn. Two new recruits are nearing the end of their training, and will be undergoing assessment shortly. Their skill levels are high, so they should breeze through. We also have members preparing to undergo further training as Advanced Fire-fighters, Village Fire-fighters (ie house fires) and one who is shortly to gain a licence to drive the Cat 1 tanker. Bev Hughes has also completed her...

Rain Brings Relief to the Fire Season, But is a Mixed Blessing.

The North Arm Cove Rural Fire Service had a very quiet month in February, with no call-outs However the 1 st March made up for this in spades, with three call-outs on that day. The torrential rain overnight meant that many homes were flooded. Where the water was deep enough the Brigade was able to deploy its portable pump to remove it. A tree branch which fell on a resident's car also brought down a line so it was once more into...
