At the February meeting of the North Arm Cove Rural Fire Brigade, Sarah Kemble from the RFS attended to explain the Community Protection Plan that is being developed for our village. Given the extremely high level of risk to the Cove in event of a fire, this is deemed to be of the utmost importance. The Plan, which is still in Draft form, requires input from our Brigade, and will be worked on at the February training day. When finalised (hopefully by the end of March) it will go on permanent public display, and also the village will be door-knocked...

Calling for volunteersschTue, 22/01/2013 - 11:16am

Attention All Able-Bodied Villagers! Your local Rural Fire Service is in desperate need of members able to train as volunteer fire fighters. We need to be able to field at least two full crews in event of a major fire, and at present we have great difficulty doing this.

Our active membership is rapidly reaching or has reached retirement age, so it is important to have younger fitter people on board. Full training is given, and there are many side benefits and areas one can specialise in that can enhance your personal and professional development. So...

Report of NACRFS January Meeting. December is the time of the year when Santa does his annual “Lolly Run” and sure enough the children of North Arm Cove and Carrington received their annual treat from Santa in the Big Fire Truck. The fire season is well and truly upon us, with dry conditions and record-breaking heat...

The NAC Fire Station has undergone further refurbishment with the installation of a desk for the computer equipment and new shelves for the storage of paperwork/records relating to operational matters of the Brigade. The slate floor is undergoing repairs and will be sealed. All this together with the new kitchen makes a greatly improved environment for member training sessions, meetings and general office activities.

A hazard reduction burn is still planned for the area north of the village, but as yet no date has been set. September was another quiet month for call-outs, but with a dry summer predicted,...

August was another quiet month for the NAC Brigade, with three call-outs, and Neal Cook, Bev and Ben Hughes spending five days assisting at Kempsey. Ben Hughes was presented with his First Aid Certificate – congratulations Ben!

Maureen Kelly attended the September meeting to give a progress report on the recording of the history of the Brigade. She has completed interviews with relevant members past and present, and is now keen to meet informally with Brigade members to gain some anecdotes, for an amusing angle on firefighting.

The Brigade received a Fire Note from the Bushfire Cooperative Research...
