Hard at work on the garden

The garden group are delighted with their first planting of potatoes, pumpkin, zucchini, salad greens, garlic chives, celery, spring onions, peas, beans and cucumber.

After a month of hard work making compost and preparing the beds, the seedlings are shooting up and have managed to survive a couple of very hot days. The beds are quite exposed, so shade cloth has now been erected to protect the young shoots during the hottest part of the day.

Wednesday mornings 9am -11 am and the first saturday for the month are the current regular days for working in the community garden.

Last Wednesday was a hot planting day and Quinn from Stockton in the Cove on holiday visited to plant fennel, pumpkins and greens. Quinn was a converted ambassador and reported to his brother that the community garden was a good place to make new friends and get free seeds by swapping from his collection.

Visiting children and others are welcome.

Surprise!!!mpicklesWed, 26/09/2012 - 1:39pm

The brand new raised garden beds came with protectors so that people working the garden would not harm themselves on the sharp edges.

Sometime between Monday 24 and Wednesday 26 someone has removed the edging from all three of the raised garden beds.

Whoever has stolen them please return or if you know of who did ask them on our behalf to return them to the garden.

North Arm Cove residents showed their support for the Community Garden Network on election day, 8 September. In excess of $650 was raised, with a total profit of over $350. In addition, the Community Centre Management Committee generously donated $200. A very big thank you for these much needed funds.
