For those present at the Community Hall on the first Tuesday in November there were some serious matters at stake.
Picnic baskets loaded with fine delicacies were rapidly emptied to the accompaniment of bubbly and beer.
Bidding on each horse was both raucous and highly competitive.
Energy levels reached and exceeded fever pitch.
But the real business of the afternoon came after the "big race". We were over the moon for the annual best hat competition.
There was elegance. There was creativity. There was the theatre of the absurd.
Congratulations to Edda & Tony on their achievements. (But did Maria chicken out?)
