Tossers Under Closer Scrutiny!

By tonyh, 1 July, 2012

Surveillance cameras are being used in the Shire to capture acts of illegal dumping. I was briefed by Amy McKey, Waste Management Co-ordinator, and David Oates, Council Ranger, last Friday (29/06/2012) on the latest initiative being taken to identify and prosecute those who choose to dump their rubbish in our 'back yards'.

Small and very discrete surveillance cameras are being set up in known hot spots. They have already been used here in the Cove area. The Council is eager to get some prosecutions under its belt to get the message out that dumping will not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, the GLC has agreed at our request to put up a barrier across the old quarry to stop vehicles turning off the highway to drop household rubbish in that area.
