Your village needs you!

Over the years the village has benefited enormously from the efforts of many volunteers who have generously given their time to serve the interests of our community.

The focus of their work has been to protect the Cove's unique environment, to raise funds for projects which improve our lives and to provide a medium for us to lobby local and state governments for better services. As a consequence we have been granted hundreds of thousands of dollars for various capital projects. We have had significant input into local government decision making and, most importantly, everyone knows we count....

It's notoriously difficult to stop these people, but I'm advised that individuals can take action by going through the following process.

If you see anyone dumping rubbish, collect these details:

Date and time the incident occurred Location and road details Vehicle registration number, type and colour of vehicle Type of waste thrown out of the vehicle Take photos if you can

You should then complete a statutory declaration which makes reference to all the above and send the details to David Oates, Senior Ranger, who is authorised to issue infringements under the Act . This should lead to...

Surveillance cameras are being used in the Shire to capture acts of illegal dumping. I was briefed by Amy McKey, Waste Management Co-ordinator, and David Oates, Council Ranger, last Friday (29/06/2012) on the latest initiative being taken to identify and prosecute those who choose to dump their rubbish in our 'back yards'.

Small and very discrete surveillance cameras are being set up in known hot spots. They have already been used here in the Cove area. The Council is eager to get some prosecutions under its belt to get the message out that dumping will not be tolerated....

An example of sea wall failure

At a council meeting with the community at Hawks Nest last November, NACRA put a question to Lisa Schiff, GLC Director of Planning, about the coastal erosion along our foreshore in North Arm Cove. Some waterfront property sea walls and gardens are disappearing because of wave action and poor storm water drainage in the street (resulting in excessive subsurface and surface water run-off).

Lisa Schiff was asked, " Property owners with waterfront blocks – how do they know what they can and can’t do to protect their blocks from erosion? What legislation must they be aware of and who...

Concerns, that the North Arm Cove community’s long felt need for improved water access has not been addressed, feature strongly in NACRA's response to Council's draft recreational boating strategy document.

The Community Association's response highlights some of the omissions and misunderstandings in the report and seeks meetings with Council prior to the draft being formally adopted.

The NACRA response is attached below.
