For some years now, many North Arm Cove residents have watched, with some trepidation, the proposals, plans and now developments occurring on the eastern side of the North Arm Cove waterway and around Fame Cove.

Fame Cove is an area of cultural significance to the Worimi people. It is valued by boaties as one of the very best anchorages in the whole country. Within Fame Cove is a Marine Park Sanctuary Zone.

On Wednesday 12 October, two of the senior staff recently appointed to the evolving MidCoast Council structure visited the Cove for a quick tour and a meeting over an early lunch with members of the Residents Association committee. The Director Community Spaces & Services, Paul De Szell, had worked for Great Lakes Council prior to 2004 so he was able to refresh his memory of our village and catch up with the more recent developments. Daniel Aldridge is the new appointment to the role of Manager Community Spaces, Recreation and Trades.

A good discussion followed an interesting presentation from our State MP Kate Washington when she updated Saturday's Residents Meeting on a wide range of current state issues. The topics addressed included hospital public-private partnerships, the Williamtown contamination and sale of part of the Mambo wetlands . Kate also dicussed issues she was encountering as a result of her added responsibilities as shadow minister for both Early Childhood and the Hunter. These roles were often requiring her to travel and as a result she was spending quite a bit of time away from the Electorate.

The minutes of the meeting...
