During a visit to North Arm Cove this afternoon local Federal MP, Dr David Gillespie, announced a Federal Stronger Communities Grant of $5000 for the Cove. This grant will provide half the funding  for a project that will see solar-powered lighting installed around the Community Precinct to assist people moving safely from the Hall to their cars in the adjacent parking areas.

With Parliamentary sittings over now for 2017, Federal MPs are able to return to their electorates and address local issues.

Our Federal MP, Dr David Gillespie has arranged a visit to the Cove this coming Wednesday, 13 November. We are hopeful that this visit means he will have some good news to tell the Cove. If you are available around 3pm and would like to hear what David has to say, head along to the Community Hall.  Afternoon tea will be provided - and copies of the North Arm Cove Book will also be available for purchase!

On Sunday afternoon (20 August), after weeks of unseasonally warm and dry days, finally a little bit of winter arrived in the Cove - just as more than a hundred attendees were assembled by the Hall to celebrate the opening of our new park, the launch of the Cove booklet and the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Residents Association.

Brief patches of warming sunshine gave glimmers of hope that the planned outdoor activities might yet be achievable. But as 2.30pm approached another chilling shower sent all of us to the warmth and shelter offered by the Hall....

The recently completed tennis practice court and multi-use facility is already proving quite popular among both adults and kids. It is free to use and self-managed - that is, no booking is required.

Tennis Club President, Peter Chappelow said "This is another great addition to the Cove infrastructure and complements the Community Precinct project very well."

Thanks to a big roll-up at working bees in late April and early May followed by some intensive effort from some of David Read's team, progress on implementing the Community Precinct is ahead of schedule. This work is being in part funded by a Stronger Communities grant of $47,940 that was obtained by the Residents Association in late 2016.

Work on the walking track and play area is well advanced and a bmx track is being shaped at the southern end of the reserve. The new parking area behind the hall is also taking shape. A big thank you...

We are starting the new village green opposite the Hall and we would like your help. Please can you give a couple of hours of your time?

The new green will be a place with a trail for walking, a place to take your kids or grandkids for a bike ride or to play a ball game, or just a place to sit and listen to the birds whilst taking in the native surrounds.

The work is essential but simple entailing the collection of weeds and tree debris, plant identification and general clearance in preparation for seeding and...

Between the past week's all-to-frequent squally showers, David Read and his team have been able to commence work on the Cove's planned Commmunity Precinct. The first task is creating the ~400 metre walking/cycling track that will meander around the reserve opposite the Hall. The layout of this track was determined several weeks ago by Council Parks and Recreation staff in conjunction with the Project's local steering subcommittee. The track when completed will have a fine crushed rock surface.

Yesterday, (October 7) the Residents Association, with the support of other local groups, submitted an application for funds to formalise a "Community Precinct" in the village. A Stronger Communities Fund was established as result of NSW Government decisions associated with the recent Council merger. MidCoast Council has a total of one million dollars available for grants to local communities over the next two years. No one organisation will get more than $50,000. Proposed projects must not have previously received funding and there were various other constraints including requiring that the projects:

deliver social, cultural, economic or environmental benefits to...
