There is a little over a week remaining to respond to the draft MidCoast Community Strategic Plan . Council will use this plan as a guide in its decision-making. It is up to us to respond if we want the direction Council takes to be relevant to us.

After the merger, a “What is MidCoast” project produced the following vision statement:

MidCoast Council wants our feedback on their Draft Community Strategic Plan - Vision and Values. And we need to let them know what we think.

At Saturday's Residents meeting, guest speaker Daniel Brauer referred to the Draft Hunter Regional Plan which outlines a 20-year plan for the region. Great Lakes is included within its scope. There is a related document entitled Draft Plan for a Growing Hunter City. Responses to the plans can be made until the end of this month.

The New State Planning Legislation went before the NSW Upper House on Wed. 27th Nov. This Legislation has been extremely controversial, for many reasons. The chief of these is the shift from ESD as its overarching principle, to growth and development; and also the restrictions on individuals and communities to comment or even be informed of developments that may impact on them. Due to very pressing and important issues, as in the NSW Draft Planning Laws now before the Parliament, we have suspended the usual November General Meeting in order to specifically address the adverse changes to environmental protection and community rights laws in this State. At the recent Meeting of the North Arm Cove Residents Association, I mentioned that the Port Stephens EcoNetwork had sent information connected with the proposed changes to the State Planning Act, and which was of some concern.
