The Loosely Woven concert at the Community Hall on Saturday 18 February attracted a full house. In fact, some eager concert goers who rang to book in the final days before the event had to be knocked back. YESS organiser Joan Williams was sad to have to turn people away, but the committee is already working on getting Loosely Woven back in the near future.

And what a concert it was - everything from classical to pop to rock. The audience was encouraged to sing along and joined in with gusto. Meanwhile...

North Arm Cove Boating Development Plan
A response to a letter from property owners

These comments are in response to a letter written by two long-term Cove property owners about the Boating Now's feasibility study into a boat ramp and jetty in North Arm Cove.

The letter included a report on the suitability of Medina Bay and was addressed to Kate Washington with, I believe, copies to the MidCoast Council. It now appears that the letter is in open circulation in our community but without the report.

It...

When Cove residents Joan and Col Williams saw Loosely Woven perform at Wallarobba in August last year, they just knew they had to book them for North Arm Cove. So Joan and the YESS committee got together and approached Loosely Woven with some tentative dates, finally settling on Saturday, 18 February.

This is your chance to see a unique group of performers consisting of approximately 20 singers and instrumentalists. Presented in a cabaret style, the music is a mix of folk, classical, comedy, pop, blues, ethnic and country, plus a bit of drama...

At an extraordinary meeting of MidCoast Council held on 21 December 2016 it was resolved that MidCoast County Council (which trades as MidCoast Water) should be dissolved and merged as a separate business unit within MidCoast Council. This resolution is a recommendation to the Minister for Local Government.

MidCoast Council's plans for a Special Rate Variation (SRV)  to apply for four years commencing in 2017-18 have been blocked.  An edict from the Office of Local Government in late 2016 expressly ruled out consideration of SRVs for any newly merged council - at least for the next financial year. The basic rate increase (expected to be 2.5%) will still apply.

At MidCoast Council’s meeting on Wednesday 23 November the Administrator, John Turner, accepted the recommendation to issue a "notice of intention to apply" for a special rate variation (SRV). If successful this will result in an average annual residential rate increase of around $64 each year for four years.

You can have your say on a survey on the proposed rate variation here . (Survey closes 5 December.)

Council's press release reads:

The decision to formally express an intention to apply for a SRV comes in the lead-up to a December deadline

There was plenty of excitement in Karuah last week during the fires and while we weren’t in any real danger, we found ourselves smack bang in the middle of all the action in the sky above us.

First we were treated to the unusual sight of a DC10 as it flew low over the house on its way to dump retardant. Then there were the helicopters, all shapes and sizes constantly taking off and landing at the Karuah sports ground to...

Whilst our Prime Minister gushed and rushed to assure us after the Trump victory on Wednesday evening that "we have so much in common" with our friends in the United States, the MidCoast Council was assuring us that we still have friends in the distant land of Forster.

We were told about visions, missions, engagements, surveys, vucap (a list of very important negative words), models for I, we, me and us. These are some of the things that have been occupying thousands of hours of human resources time for the last few months. Then , of course, there has...
