With Parliamentary sittings over now for 2017, Federal MPs are able to return to their electorates and address local issues.

Our Federal MP, Dr David Gillespie has arranged a visit to the Cove this coming Wednesday, 13 November. We are hopeful that this visit means he will have some good news to tell the Cove. If you are available around 3pm and would like to hear what David has to say, head along to the Community Hall.  Afternoon tea will be provided - and copies of the North Arm Cove Book will also be available for purchase!

November has certainly been a big month for sales of Old Masters. A Da Vinci painting sold at auction in New York for a mind-boggling $A591million. Closer to home, did you see that our own MidCoast Council has been off on its own Old Masters buying spree as well?

MidCoast vs LDF Court Orders now published

Earlier today (10 October) the court orders from the September 25 Land and Environment Court hearing of the dispute between MidCoast Council and LDF were placed on the Caselaw website. In August LDF changed its name back to Tea Garden Farms (TGF).

In a something of a surprise, at the first meeting of the new Council held yesterday (27 September), David West of Brimbin was elected Mayor and Katheryn Smith of Gloucester, Deputy Mayor. These two Councillors were two of the last three Councillors elected following the 9 September election - both without achieving a quota. David West had been Deputy Mayor of Greater Taree prior to the merger and Katheryn Smith Deputy Mayor of Gloucester.

Informal did extremely well in Saturday's Council Elections for MidCoast. With around 12.5% of the total votes cast on the day, it has beaten every group apart from Country Labor! Is this a reflection on the massive voting paper, a lack of knowledge of the candidates or perhaps even a lack of interest and disconnection from the process? (By comparison, in the 2012 Council elections informal was only 6.75% in Great Lakes, 3.2% in Gloucester and 10% in Taree.)

While counting is still under way, it is clear already that former Great Lakes Deputy Mayor Len Roberts has succeeded...
