The New State Planning Legislation went before the NSW Upper House on Wed. 27th Nov. This Legislation has been extremely controversial, for many reasons. The chief of these is the shift from ESD as its overarching principle, to growth and development; and also the restrictions on individuals and communities to comment or even be informed of developments that may impact on them. In its passage through the Upper House, Labour, the Greens, and Shooters and Fishers parties were succesful in drafting many Amendments, although several significant problems still remain. The Bill passed back to the Lower House, where the Coalition...

Quite some time has passed since the entire village was distribted with the booklet "Plan, Act, Survive" bushfire survival guide and Plan. We recognise that many new residents have moved into the Cove since then and may not have a copy of this essential guide. If you are one of those, please contact either Len Yearsley on 4997 3262, or Stephanie Hunter on 4997 3483 to ontain a copy. Summer starts today - so be prepared!

Dear Sir,
Re: Submission on Second Edition Oyster Industry Sustainable Aquaculture Strategy
This submission is on behalf of the North Arm Cove Aquaculture Committee which is part of the
North Arm Cove Resident’s Association (NACRA). The committee was formed in 2001 due to
the ongoing concerns of the residents regarding the unused derelict oyster racks at North Arm
Cove. Over the years we have had several meetings with the Department...

To all EcoNetwork affiliates and members

Attached for wide distribution, a notice and flyer for a Special Meeting convened by EcoNetwork for 27th November. Due to very pressing and important issues, as in the NSW Draft Planning Laws now before the Parliament, we have suspended the usual November General Meeting in order to specifically address the adverse changes to environmental protection and community rights laws in this State. This legislation will be followed by the new Lower Hunter Regional Strategy also favouring vested interests. We request the widest possible distribution of this flyer to your members and...

NSW Planning Laws fail to deliver. Community rights & environmental protection now undermined.
Hear James Ryan, Nature Conservation Council of NSW, NSW Better Planning Network, Lower Hunter Community Campaigner on Wednesday 27th November at 6.30pm Tomaree Library, Boronia Room Salamander

The NSW Planning Minister Brad Hazzard, on Tuesday 22nd October, introduced his controversial Planning Bill 2013 to the NSW Parliament. Following two years of preparation and state-wide opposition, this Bill still undermines community rights and environmental protection by subordinating the public interest to the demands of powerful vested interests in this state. Now to be debated in the...

I met with Geoff Love (GLC engineer) and two representativesof the consultancy firm drawing up the plans for the future stormwater work in the Cove. He couldn't tell me much as everything is still very much in the planning stage. He said there are many problem areas in the Cove and dealing with them will be difficult (and no doubt expensive). The draft plans are on display in the Library, which unfortunately is only open Saturday mornings. However he did emphasise that people still have quite a few weeks to look at them and raise any concerns they may have...

At the May 28 Great Lakes Council Meeting approval was given for the construction of a 3000 sq. metre dwelling and facilities on the hilltop at the neck of North Arm Cove, the subject of a 38-page report and 42 deferred comment conditions including Rural Fire Service requirements.

New State Planning Guide lines stipulate the Council is now the sole consent authority unless the land is to be rezoned.
