Sixteen tennis club members assembled under the Hall shelter on Saturday for the Annual General Meeting. It was a cold and windy event but a sucess nonetheless with the re-election of our committee plus two new members, Stephen Soper and Pat Brennan, and the retirement of one other, Cheryl Yearsley. My personal thanks to Cheryl for her enthusiasm and support over the last year.

We now have a team of eight on board to battle our way through the coronavirus problems with the hope that just maybe some of the play constraints will be lifted for the spring and...

The NAC Tennis Club AGM will be held under the Hall shelter at 3:00 pm this Saturday, Aug 22nd. If you are at all interested in playing tennis at any level, please feel free to come along, meet our members and to listen in.

Bring along your own snacks and drinks, perhaps a folding chair, and join us. You'll be most welcome.

Tennis Meeting July 4th

Fourteen club members attended a tennis meeting held at the court last Saturday. Some of the main points of discussion were:

Play - continues to be permitted under strict COVID conditions which exclude so-called high-risk groups. This includes all those over 70 and anyone who has chronic respiratory, kidney, diabetic and immune-related condtions. A proposal was made to introduce a waiver system for healthy over 70 year olds. The MCC and our insurers will be contacted to see if this is allowable. The committee has agreed to re-admit visitors to the court. All players, members or not, must still...

The Tennis Court Reopens

The MidCoast Council has given us the authority to reopen the tennis court using the Covid-19 guidelines set by Tennis NSW.

This means we can now accept bookings for club members under 70 for play from 9am to 5pm with last bookings at 4pm. Bookings by phone only 0427 276 718. All sessions must be overseen by a supervising committee member (Sharon, Elizabeth or Brenda) and only singles play will be permitted unless the players are from the same household.

COVID-19 and Tennis

The coronavirus threat has forced the NAC Tennis Club to consider the possiblity of closing the court as it is a place where people get together in a group.

However, we have decided to keep the facility open as long as Government and regulatory agencies allow so that members of our community can have a break from social confinement and get some fresh air and exercise.

To do this, we have had to impose conditions on the use of the court to minimise the threat of transmission between players. All players are required to read and abide by...

Tennis Coaching for Youngsters

The North Arm Cove Tennis Club has been offered the services of Chris Herden, a professional tennis coach. Chris is a former NSW ranked junior and a USA college representative with 25 years of international and Australian coaching experience.

Chris runs special programs for young players:

Perceptual Motor program (4-5 yrs) Tennis Australia ANZ Hot Shots (5-12 yrs) High School programs Leader System

If you haven't yet, maybe you are missing out on what has been described as the fastest growing sport in the US. And there are already some 1500 players in Australia.

Now you can join the crowd. Pickleball is a cross between tennis, badminton and table tennis and it has come to North Arm Cove! Four players, a low net and a low-compression ball.

Pickleball is one of the games we learn in the Get Your Racquet On! program.

Did you know – just three sports have been proven world-wide to be socially inclusive whilst positively enhancing life, welfare and sustainability? One is tennis. (The others are golf and bowls – but who’s got the time for them??).

Apparently running around a court like an idiot whilst making silly attempts to knock a ball over a net, just so someone else can belt it back again is good for the bones, the muscles and the brain. (Was it Mae West who suggested that the fighting would stop if each side was given its own ball?)
