The good news this month is that the new bench table for the tennis shelter was installed by Council on 22 April and is exactly what we needed. GLC also removed one of the older tables, which was unsafe, and has dyna bolted the new one to terra firma so thievery will be a bit more difficult.

Saturday Member Social Tennis hours have now changed to 9am to 12noon. Monday Social Tennis hours remain the same. Due to low numbers recently it would be wise to contact the tennis phone on 0427276718 to ensure there will be enough players on Mondays if you want to play on that day.

The tennis court has proven to be a great asset for both residents and visitors over the holidays, with the great weather and new shade shelter. While December numbers were down, January was very busy, paricularly with visiting relatives and holiday makers, with the court fully booked on one day from 8am - 6pm.

Our Tennis Taster Day on 19 January was designed to introduce non-players and people who may have played at some time in their lives, to the game, with free racquets, balls and coaching from our regular players. Despite great weather, numbers were lower than expected,...

Christmas is only a month away and the warm weather has seen a noticeable increase in court bookings and usage. We have over 25 members, either in the social groups (Saturday/Monday mornings) or with separate fixed private sessions. For bookings or questions on how to start or get a game please call 0427276718 between 0900-1700.

OCTOBER 2013

Another good month for tennis – the warm dry weather certainly makes for pleasant conditions, particularly around 8-10 am and 4-6pm when the sun is in the trees and the wind has backed off. Our “Opera House” shelter may not be an architectural gem but serves the purpose well!

Memberships continue to come in and Trish advises that we have over 20 members (single $20, family$40), which is 10% of the village population!

New Committee

A reshuffle of committee members at the AGM on 31 August saw Ken Duffey move to Vice President, with Peter Chappelow taking over as President. Ken was key to having our new weather shelter installed by Council at minimal cost to the Club. Kerrian Griffin stood down from the Treasurer position after keeping us in the black and out of trouble for 2012-13. Trish Peters takes over as Treasurer with Sandy Chappelow as Public Officer.Well done all and we hope that our next year is as good as the last.

Regulars will have noted the completion of paving around our new “Opera House” weather shelter. The paving provides more sealed floor area to the shelter and prevents gravel ending up on the court surface.

Two new members were welcomed recently – Georgina from Karuah and Alex from Promontory Way. Alex had never played tennis at all but is going well with some help from our other players. New players are always welcome – NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

Annual membership fees are now due: $40 Family and $20 Single – pay by cheque or cash to Kerrian Griffin...

Tennis Club Insurance Hike

A revised insurance system and a tripling of fees by Tennis Australia penalises smaller clubs such as ours and has forced a budget review by your Committee (new costs are $400 base rate plus $250 per court.

Fees for members will remain the same but casual hirers will be charged an additional $2.00 per hour to help cover insurance. Night lighting charges will rise to $3.00 per hour.

The court telephone booking system is working well, with Committee members doing a monthly roster using the Club phone to take bookings. Call 0427 276 718 to book. ...

Tennis Insurance Hike

After social tennis on Saturday, 18 May 2013 there will be a General Meeting at 11.00 am to discuss the ramifications of more than 100% increase in insurance. Possible changes will be made in membership fees and court hire to cover costs.

A BBQ will take place after this meeting. BYO everything with free tennis in the afternoon.

The tennis net has been re-stitched and algae has been sprayed with Kendocide on affected areas. Round Up has been sprayed on perimeter of court.
