The 'crafty ladies' at work

The last Stitch Gatherers meeting was busy and productive, with members working on a variety of knitting, crochet and quilting projects.

Before the meeting got under way, Joan Williams read out a letter from Ronald McDonald House, thanking the group for the recent donation of knitted beanies and teddy bears.  These gifts were greatly appreciated by residents, staff and volunteers.  Many of the beanies donated were on display at the recent 'Biggest Morning Tea.'

Then it was time for 'show and tell'.  Kay Furley amazed the group with her beautiful candlewick and lace bedspread. Many hours of work have gone into this magnificent project, which will be put on display at the Quiltarama Exhibition at Dungog. The photo here really doesn't do it justice and the group is planning a "Quilt Exhibition" in the near future to showcase quilting and embroidery work done by the ladies of North Arm Cove.

Joan Williams displayed an example of a recently made "stack and slash" quilt.  This method of quilting is relatively easy for beginners and is achieved by stacking squares of fabric and cutting them into geometric patterns that are then sewn together by machine.

The Stitch Gatherers group meet every third Wednesday of the month at the Community Hall.  If you would like to join, please contact Joan Williams on 4997 3438.
