August Report

By sch, 15 August, 2012

The North Arm Cove Rural Fire Service requires the services of someone who can act as their Callout Officer. This person would be contacted by Fire Control in the event of an incident and this person would then contact members of the Brigade in order for them to attend. The person for this position would need to be someone who spends most of their time at home, and would suit a non-active member of the RFS or someone who would like to join as a non-fire-fighting member. Whilst not an onerous task, it is one that is essential to the operation of the Brigade. Please contact Neal Cook on 4997 3058 or Stephanie Hunter on 4997 3483.

July was another quiet month with only four callouts – an MVA, a residential flue fire, a smoke sighting, and a highway clean-up after a B-Double left the road. However the fire season is approaching and residents are urged to start cleaning up their properties in preparation. The fuel load surrounding the Cove is high, and if we get a hot dry summer the risk will be high also. There is a hazard reduction burn planned for north of the village, if and when conditions become suitable. North Arm Cove has been chosen to be part of a trial of a new initiative, the Village Fire Protection Scheme and Darrin Briggs will be advising us further on that.
