NAC Fire Brigade News

The month of March saw some activity for the Brigade. We attended the Motor Show at Hawks Nest, a car fire, an MVA (motor vehicle accident) and assisted Tea Gardens Brigade at a hazard reduction burn. Two new recruits are nearing the end of their training, and will be undergoing assessment shortly. Their skill levels are high, so they should breeze through. We also have members preparing to undergo further training as Advanced Fire-fighters, Village Fire-fighters (ie house fires) and one who is shortly to gain a licence to drive the Cat 1 tanker. Bev Hughes has also completed her First Aid Certificate. We may be a small Brigade, but enthusiasm is high.

The first of three hazard reduction burns for the Cove is set for 4th May, weather conditions permitting. The community may not be aware that there are on average, only about fifteen days a year when conditions are suitable, so it makes maintaining a safe level of combustible material difficult. Notices will go out to residents shortly beforehand advising of the burn, so that those who wish to leave and avoid exposure to smoke may do so.

The twentieth anniversary of the Fire Station is coming up in September, and the community will be canvassed for ideas on how to celebrate, via the Cove News.

The Brigade AGM will be held on 4th June at 7.00pm at the Station. All welcome.
