Lettuce ready to pick

The community garden is absolutely blooming with the best winter crop since its establishment in 2012.  Broccoli, cabbage, turnip, lettuce, herbs and chillies are all ready for picking.  Bill Moller planted early to ensure a bumper winter crop and the garden is also benefiting from liberal applications of compost and worm juice.

A small orchard has been planted to complement the existing fruit trees.  Gisele and Graham Smit donated two Avocado trees and Maria Pickles contributed a Manadarin.  If you have a fruit tree that you would like to donate, please contact Maria or Bill.

Unfortunately, the shed suffered some damage during the storm, so the pergola is on hold for a while.  Dave Read has it on his β€˜to do’ list, so watch this space.

A recent donation of a large ex supermarket tub container and seat will make a wonderful home for strawberries. and the middle section would be ideal for a small ornamental tree.

On 8 July from 10am there will be an Open Garden with a delicious morning tea of scones, Rosella jam and cream served with coffee and tea.

New members are welcome so come along and bring a friend for a cuppa and a tour of the garden.

For further information contact Maria Pickles 4997 3045.
