 Food Fermentation for Health

You may have heard that western diets with high sugar, fat and wheat content are responsible for poor health attributed to poor gut health. Fermented foods have been used by all cultures and there is a re-emergence of popularity of these foods as a way of improving our gut health. The way it works simply is the fermented food gives our digestive tracts important living cultures which help in the digestion of foods and assimilation of nutrients. A little fermented food a day improves our immune system, helps us digest food generally and have more energy, and helps our bodies resist the effects of chemicals such as chlorine in water, fluoride and antibiotics.

A fermentation fest at North Arm Cove featuring demonstrations from locals on fermentation with loads of information, samples and innovative ideas is being offered by the North Arm Cove Community Gardeners.

We will be demonstrating sauerkraut, cheese, sourdough, Kimchee, Kaffir and Kambucha.

This is a great way to get started with fermentation of foods and drinks.
