9:20 am Welcome and Introductions
9:30 am Workshop in the Hall with Dr Megan Halcroft
- A summary of the life & times of the stingless bee Austroplebeia australis,
- Beesβ place in our environment: includes honey bees, stingless bees, semi-social and solitary bees
- How bees contribute to biodiversity in the ecosystem
- How bees improve crop production and the economic importance of bees in our world
- Anatomical adaptations that make bees the best pollinators in the world
- The pollinator crisis worldwide
- How to identify some of the native bees in your own garden
- How to attract native bees into your garden
- How to conserve and provide habitat for native bees
Lunch 12:30 β 1:30 pm In the Community Garden and under the pergola
1:30 pm β 2:30/ 3:00 pm Constructing a native bee habitat for your garden or community location.
Demonstration native bee nests will be available and also some for purchase.
