Electronic Safety Sign

By janiner, 9 May, 2021

There are several groups of residents who regularly cycle, jog or walk along the bitumen roads between the village and the highway. Some have had near misses with vehicles speeding along the roads. The problem is particularly noticeable in the early mornings when tradesmen are coming to work in the village.

Peter C has been lobbying the various government authorities to get some signage regarding the distance required when passing cyclists on the road. He has had one short term success. Midcoast Council has put up an electronic sign on a trailer close to the entry to the Cove. This sign will only be available for a couple of weeks, but it has already had a positive impact on driver behaviour.

It is not only the tradesmen that need to slow down. Locals have had several near misses with deer in the last few months, and wallabies and kangaroos have no road sense. It is up to all of us to slow down, give cyclists and pedestrians plenty of space and keep our wildlife safe.
