“Loosely Woven” comes to North Arm Cove

Invitation

When Cove residents Joan and Col Williams saw Loosely Woven perform at Wallarobba  in August last year, they just knew they had to book them for North Arm Cove.  So Joan and the YESS committee got together and approached Loosely Woven with some tentative dates, finally settling on Saturday, 18 February.

This is your chance to see a unique group of performers  consisting of approximately 20 singers and instrumentalists.  Presented in a cabaret style, the music is a mix of folk, classical, comedy, pop, blues, ethnic and country, plus a bit of drama thrown in.

The concerts are acoustic with no amplification except for the keyboard. This gives the audience a rare opportunity to hear the vocals and instruments free of artificial enhancement.  The group actively encourage audience participation so when it comes to joining in the audience finds itself on an equal footing with the performers.

Amazingly, they don’t charge a fee, they just do it for the love of performing and wherever possible, they involve local musicians and singers.

So what’s behind the name “Loosely Woven”?  Group Founder Wayne Richmond explained.  “It’s very appropriate as we are a pretty loose knit group, so Loosely Woven is just the name given to whoever I can round up at the time for a particular concert.”

The group started back in the 90’s when a few members would get together and participate in the occasional live to air concert on community radio.  One of the members suggested a public concert and since then, Loosely Woven has given several concerts a year.  Through word of mouth, the group’s popularity has grown and they now draw audiences of 150 plus. This year they are scheduled to appear at South Turramurra, Dee Why, Dungog, Leura, Allambie Heights, North Arm Cove and Millthorpe.

Loosely Woven will be performing at the Community Hall on Saturday 18 February. The concert starts promptly at 4pm and ends at 7.30pm.  There will be an intermission at 5.30pm for a light supper at $5.00 per plate.

Bookings are essential for seating and catering purposes and can be made by phoning Joan Williams, 4997 3438 by 11 February.
