INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY (IWD) North Arm Cove - a huge success once again! The Community Centre was crowded, tables decorated beautifully and delicious home-made food, plus two amazing guest speakers:
Vanessa Palfreeman, who gave us insight to her interesting life, especially her work for women in the PNG islands.
Lyn Chaikin, who left us with tears in our eyes when describing her voluntary work with The Umbrella Foundation for those in need in Nepal (www.umbrellaaustralia.org).
The IWD function has been ongoing in North Arm Cove for 27 years …raising over $100,000 during that time for disadvantaged women around the world.
The Honourable Kate Washington MP, Minister for Families and Communities, Minister for Disability Inclusion and Member for Port Stephens was in attendance as usual… she said she cannot stay away from a projects close to her heart; she is responsible for the care of some 13,000 children in the State, who live away from their parents for safety reasons.
Well done to the organisers: Jan Peeters, Coralie Wilkes, Jan Walker, Robyn Gee, John Fisk and Glenn Walker… an amazing team (including Tim Henman with his tireless labour of love in the production of exquisitely decorated presentation bags).
