Poetic Exhibition

Poetry and high art have long been held up as the pinnacle of culture. Poetry and craft; not so much.
In this exhibition Cox takes poems and uses craft-based techniques such as embroidery to show how these forms of ‘low’art can just as easily reflect the imagery and ideas of poetry.
Sophie Cox is a contemporary artist who employs photography and craft techniques in her work to celebrate the everyday, and how this can be elevated into something of poetic beauty. Completing a Bachelor of Visual Arts with First-Class Honours from Sydney University's College of the Arts in 2018, Cox’s work has been shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, Gaffa Gallery in Sydney's CBD, and Christensen Heller Gallery in Oakland, California, as well as numerous group and solo shows.
