Report of April Residents Association Meeting.
There was an increase in attendance at the April Meeting of the Residents Association, as well as four new members. This was heartening for the committee.
A large agenda and thirty-five items of correspondence were the results of a very busy two months for the Association. Some of the main activities included letters and visits to and from our local members seeking support for a jetty; letters to and from relevant State Government Ministers also requesting support for a jetty; a submission to Transport NSW providing input to the Draft Regional Boating Infrastructure Plans; a letter from the Community Centre Committee expressing support for the Heros Bay Reserve upgrade; and a letter from the Co-ordinator, Environmental Services at GLC stating that an inspection and sampling of the waterfront along Cove Bvd showed very low levels of pollution (probably due in part to low rainfall for several months), however further testing will be carried out.
Progress on Dinghy launching ramps at Water St. and Casuarina Reserves has been frustratingly slow. We are awaiting engineering specs and approvals from relevant authorities. We are dependent on GLC for this work and so we will keep nudging them along. The grant authorities require the work to be completed by mid-August.
Our greatest frustration continues to be our efforts to communicate with, and get action from, Great lakes Council. We have a certain amount of sympathy, as they are under-resourced to deal with extra tasks cast down to them by the State Government. However it makes progress on our projects exceedingly slow.
Committee member Len Yearsley attended a seminar to consider matters affecting the ageing population of this area. Major concerns were transport, poor GP and medical services, and poor emergency communications. Discussion followed on how to assist our ageing community in times of emergency. It was suggested that a carer system similar to the warden scheme of the past be introduced, and the Committee will follow this up.
