Burn outs - Gooreengi Rd

By bobreid, 29 November, 2023
Information

On Sunday morning when I drove out of NAC there were bits of shredded tyre and wire all over the Gooreengi Rd intersection. Fortunately I had a pair of gloves in the car so I stopped and got the worst of it off the road. I was later told that there was another burnout meet about 12:30 on Saturday night.

This problem had been reported to the local police quite a few times by residents over the past couple of months, and we know that the police had broken up one group a couple of months ago. Apparently these burnout groups have places they use regularly at Oyster Cove and Tomago as well as NAC.

This morning I spoke to the Port Stephens Hunter police district Highway Patrol Supervisor about the problem, and he advised that the police were aware of it, they patrolled the area regularly, and had recently arrested some people and taken them away and charged them with various offences.

He advised that if anyone sees or hears a burnout happening then they should call Policelink on 131444 and request that a patrol be sent out ASAP. The police will do their best to send a patrol but it may take a while depending on higher priorities and where it has to come from. If you do report it to the police you don't have to leave your details if you don't want to, but it could help in the event of a court case and you are needed as a witness.

The Highway Patrol Supervisor has given me his contact details so if you do observe a burnout and report it to the police, please send the details to me on president@northarmcove.nsw.au so I can make sure he has been informed and we can build up a log of these events.

The impact of burnouts - two days ago a Carrington resident put the following post on the North Arm Cove Community Facebook page -

"Does anyone know who is doing all the burn outs up on crn Gooreengi Rd and Carrington Rd? Hard to avoid all the wire on road this morning and ended up getting a flat tyre, wire was found in tyre . Have heard of others getting flat tyres also. Please be careful when driving out, I have contacted police and they are aware of it and will patrol . If you know who they are or have number plates please report to police. Not nice to get a flat tyre doing 110km on freeway."

This is another example of the impact these burnouts are having on our community.

So if you see one happening call Policelink on 131444 asap and tell them about it and request that a patrol be sent out urgently.
