Autumn is a good time to plant trees

Are you looking for plants for nature strips?

Now that the weather is cooler it is a good time to plan for Autumn Planting. We have noticed more and more weeds used on nature strips such as Bromeliads, Hebbes, Senna Plants and a whole lot more. If you are not sure of weeds listed in this area you can access a weed list on the MCC website Weed Management.

Mid Coast Council has 2 nurseries open by appointment to residents who would like to plant natives for shade and for food for wildlife,1 in Tuncurry Depot depot and 1 in Taree depot Kolodong . Phone the main switch and ask to be put through to the depots.

Ph: 6591 7222

Theses 2 nurseries supply a certain amount of trees, shrubs and grasses to landcare groups. There are always plenty of plants in the nurseries for street tree beautification in the area but council does little to utilise this availability of plants. Rate payers could come to either one of these nurseries on a Monday or by appointment and choose plants to plant on their nature strips for future beautification, shade and habitat as well as being given sound horticultural advice as to planting plants suitable for nature strips.

Another option is to plant fruit trees. We have had alot of sucess with trees at the Community Garden and if you would like advice you can pop into the garden on a Wednesday morning between 8:30 am and 10:00 am

Fruit trees can be bought locally from Old Farm Nursery.  Tell them you live in the Cove for a discount.
