New and emerging weed

Weed Bulletin Number 5 describes Indian Hawthorn and what to plant in its place.

Indian Hawthorn is classified as a new and emerging weed as it is currently in limited distribution in the natural environment, but shows great potential to become a serious problem.

This species is actively controlled in natural areas by community groups in New South Wales and appears on several local and regional environmental weed lists (i.e. Far North Coast, Mid North Coast, South Coast, wider Sydney basin and Blue Mountains). Local Dunecare volunteer groups are managing Indian Hawthorn within the natural environment in the Great Lakes Area.

Despite being a declared Noxious Weed in six Council areas in the Sydney region (go HERE for full details), Indian Hawthorn continues to be strongly promoted by many nurseries across the state as an attractive, hardy garden plant.
