Weed of the Month

By mpickles, 7 September, 2020

There are many weeds in the Cove, some are easy to identify and you may have noticed that there are some fast spreading weeds that will take over large sections of the forest and village – if we don’t control it!

The weed we can focus on now, that is flowering on properties and the verges, is Polygala, a purple flowering bush.

This has been widely cultivated as a garden ornamental - particularly in the temperate regions of Australia.

Now is an opportunity to remove these weeds easily pulled out by hand or dug out when you see them in your garden, the nieghbours garden or on the verges.

While the flowers are pretty the damage to habitat is not.

Council's  Strategic Weed Biosecurity Officer, Terry Inkson said last time he visited the Cove in 2019 that this is the next big problem weed not only in the Cove along the whole coast. It will be worse than lantana.

Stay tuned for the weed of the month for October.
