In 2020 a group of 8 farmers in The Branch undertook major works on their properties to protect wetlands and riparian vegetation while improving their water points, fencing and pasture. Hunter Local Land Services, Landcare Australia and MidCoast Council partnered to provide advice and funding to these farms to help implement the works.
On Friday there is a workshop to understand what has been implemented, see on-ground works, the results achieved, and find out how you can get involved.
Weβll also explore the property to see what was done on the ground, find out how the land has responded and hear from oyster farmers about what clean water means for them, and what theyβre doing to improve the river.
FEATURING:
Dr Steve Lucas (University of Newcastle) β how is
the land responding to what weβve done?
Dr Zacc Larkin (Environmental Scientist, Estuaries
& Catchments) β what do the wetlands do, and are
we making a difference?
Local oyster farmers β water quality and oysters
