Locals travelling into the Cove during the last couple of days will have noticed the new solar-powered sign as you make the turn off Gooreengi Road. The Mid Coast Bush Fire Management Committee (BFMC) received funding to buy and install six of these Electronic Fire Danger Rating Signs within the Mid Coast Area. North Arm Cove/Carrington/Tahlee are beneficiaries of this initiative.
Committee chairman Ian Sirett said the installation of the signs came about after a review of:
- existing manual Fire Danger Rating sign locations;
- the new Mid Coast Bush Fire Risk Management Plan;
- development of Community Protection Plans for North Arm Cove, Pindimar, Bundabah, Hawks Nest, and Smiths Lake; and
- a Hotspots Fire Project in the Pappinbarra area.
"Community Protection Plans and the Hotspots Fire Projects enable community members to gain an increased awareness of risk, take responsibility for their safety by increasing their understanding of bush fire threats and providing information that will assist in the preparation of property fire management and personal Bush Fire Survival Plans." Mr Sirett said.
Acting District Manager Inspector Guy Duckworth said the installation of the Electronic Fire Danger Rating signs will provide communities with up to date Fire Danger Ratings, helping community members to make informed decisions about fire risks and their Bush Fire Survival Plan.
