Memorial Garden for Philippa

By Terri Horton, 21 November, 2025

We are pleased to present this special garden bed created by Darral, Philippas' husband at the North Arm Cove Community Garden.

This Pentagon , wicking ( self watering ) raised bed was positioned thoughtfully with carefully selected native plants to honour one special lady who assisted in founding the NAC community Garden.

The community garden funds with a special donation from resident Peter Jarmon produced the brass plaque and the build and plants built lovingly by  Philippas' husband Darrall.

Be welcome to stop and read the notes regarding the wicking bed and watch this space in the garden as it grows .

Lest we forget .

A fitting memorial for a beautiful person - truly one of the greats - who is still with us all as we wander our gardens and tend to our composting duties!

Thank you Community Garden friends and Peter.
Thanks also to Rob Van Zandvliet from the Community Garden and John Murphy a friend of Philippa’s from Cove Bvd. They helped construct this five-sided bed made with Sydney Blue Gum and an Iron Bark base donated by John. It’s pentagon shape echoes the design of the home Pippa and I built together in Cove Bvd. and it’s a wicking bed in honour of her permaculture values.
I’ll take this opportunity also to thank Robyn Gee for help with the Service relocated to the Community Hall on a wild wet windy day in July.
Philippa loved the Cove and is close by resting in peace at Karuah Cemetery (Row 9B) with a wooden headstone made by her son James from Melbourne and shells from her daughter Ella from the Gold Coast.

Thank you neighbours and friends for all the messages and support.
