Many thanks to those who came along to the 2025 North Arm Cove Clean Up Australia event on the on the 2nd of March. It was a fine day and a fine turn out with 22 keen clean team cleaner-uppers determined to maintain the local environs. It was greatly appreciated that so many people and the right number of Utes and trailers, arrived. This certainly helped the clean up push.
As usual, there was lots of rubbish to be found, especially on the tracks and areas close to Gooreengi Road where ease of access is tempting for trailer load dumpers to forgo tip fees. But overall there was less rubbish around than last year.
There were other areas attended to β around some of the foreshore but the main access roads were the focus this year. The Clean Up Australia promotion goes "when rubbish is gone - nature can carry on" and our scenario is that the cleaner the environment here means the less likely dumping will occur. Surely if there is already rubbish dumped, others will find it easier to follow with further dumping.
The most unusual and perplexing item found this year to comment about was the shopping bag full of sex toys - which created some squeals of excitement/mirth/disgust at the dump pick up site. Trust Tony Hann to come across this and pick up - but thank you Tony β I know you drove home feeling somewhat traumatised.
Lots of tyres were picked up, these must get recycled yet the tip fee for dumping tyres is quite onerous, hence we see this illegal dumping every year. Perhaps the same case might be with the number of gas bottles we found.
There are those who pick up rubbish throughout the year and those individuals get a large koala stamp.
Many thanks go to the MCC for picking up the resultant pile of rubbish now at the rear of the Community Centre.
