Get your tickets for this wonderful show

20th October 2&8pm

Brian Jones writes:

Patrons are urged to book their tickets as soon as possible to guarantee their seats for Maitland Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s Production of “Little Women”. This will be on stage at the Hawks Nest Community Centre for just two performances on Saturday October 20th at 2pm & 8pm.

To squeeze a few extra seats for last minute purchase at the door, every non-essential item will be removed from the hall.  Much better though, be sure of your seats by getting them now at either the Hawks Nest or Tea Gardens Pharmacies.

Having had a chance to watch the show already I can say that the wonderful singing from the four loveable sisters will have the audience laughing one moment and wiping a tear away the next.  As for the Mother, I do not know if it was her glorious voice, the emotion in her singing or what  but her two solo numbers absolutely captivated the audience. Wonderful acting, superb singing accompanied by a great orchestra makes Little Women  marvellous Musical Theatre that should not be missed.

Based on the ‘classic’ novel by Louisa May Alcott , the musical adaptation of Little Women has a talented cast of 25 actors and singers who will be accompanied by an 18 piece orchestra!  The show is in two acts, separated by a 20 minute intermission.  The first act has seven scenes, the second act has 5 scenes. This means the 12 scene changes will keep the 5 backstage crew on their toes. In addition there will also be Lighting and Sound technicians.

It is wonderful that that the Maitland Gilbert and Sullivan Society are willing to go to so much trouble to bring this sizeable production to the very limited theatre facilities of the Hawks Nest Community Centre.  I have invited some of our local Great Lakes Council representatives' to the show in the hope they will see the problems and advocate (and fast track!) the inclusion of a decent sized theatre (150  -  200 seats ) in the proposed ‘multi –function’ community centre they have been talking about for the past 15 years.
