From an 1886 souvenir programme

May 25, 1878 saw the premiere of HMS Pinafore (or The Lass that Loved a Sailor) in London. It has proved to be one of Gilbert and Sullivan's most loved and enduring comic operas. Full of great melodies and witty lyrics, HMS Pinafore pokes fun at such things as class distinctions and the establishment.

May 25, 2013 - exactly 135 years to the day after its world premiere - HMS Pinafore comes to Hawks Nest!

Brian Jones writes ...

Don’t leave town on Saturday May 25th or Sunday May 26th 2013 or you will miss out on seeing the Maitland Gilbert and Sullivans Society’s latest musical production.

Encouraged by the enthusiastic reception by local audiences of their recent wonderful “Little Women” production at the Hawks Nest Community Centre,  they have agreed to bring to Hawks Nest “HMS Pinafore” by Gilbert and Sullivan.

There will only be two performances: Saturday evening at 8.0pm and Matinee Sunday at 2.00 pm at the Community Centre.  Directed by the talented Aaron Taylor who directed Little Women , Aaron has promised another great show with a large cast and full orchestra.  There will be more information on tickets and booking etc later on in the New Year.
