Drenched, dripping and bedraggled they may have become but an enthusiastic band of Clean Up Australia volunteers braved some persistent Sunday showers to bag an abundance of bottles, cans and vast range of other miscellaneous litter from roadways and verges around the Cove.
Why, we might wonder, would anyone think it in anyway appropriate or acceptable to dispose of their detritus in this way? Perhaps, though, the pile of rubbish collected is declining year on year? One day, we hope, a clean up will no longer be needed. In the mean time we can applaud the efforts of those who turned out to collect trash in the rain and the organisation of Robert Van Zandvliet who this year took over the role of supremo extraordinaire from Tony Hann.
