Kate MP to visit Cove

Kate Washington MP for Port Stephens

MP Kate Washington

Kate Washington, our newly minted MP, will be the guest speaker at the Residents Meeting on June 13.   Kate is no stranger to the Cove having attended both meetings and International Women's Day events here in recent times. Kate said she would be delighted to visit the Cove once again to speak with the community in her new role as MP.

At the NSW state election back on March 28, Kate was elected to the seat of Port Stephens - causing a major upset with a massive swing. She is the first woman to represent this area in parliament at either state or federal level. Next Thursday May 7, Kate will deliver her inaugural speech in Parliament.

At our meeting Kate will outline some of her ideas, but this is also a good opportunity to let Kate know more about those state issues which are of concern to locals. As well as the perennials (like water access and health) a number of issues were raised by candidates during the campaign including "water and sewerage" and progressing the upgrade to the Pacific Highway bypassing Hexham. It would be good to know what is really happening on these issues outside the hothouse environment of the election campaign.

We will be sending Kate some briefing notes before the meeting. Do you have issues that you would like Kate to address on the day? If you let me know well beforehand, I will pass them on to Kate so she has a chance to find out more about them.
