MidCoast Council is seeking the communities ideas for walking, cycling and trail based activities.

Council has recently put out a Have Your Say request on how MidCoast communities currently use and would like to use walking and cycle trails across the region, to be used to guide the development of walk and cycle networks on land that Council manages over the next 10 years.

The Have Your Say site can be accessed via the following link - walk and cycle strategy.

The site has an interactive map on which you can drop a pin to share your current use and future ideas, and also vote on suggestions already on the map.

A couple of suggestions to consider:

  • establish a bike track between the old section of highway on the southern end of Gooreengi Rd and Mill Hill Close - this would enable residents to ride a bike all the way to Karuah and back and avoid needing to ride on or cross the motorway. Such a track would only be a few hundred metres long and easy to build - it would be a bonus for the many North Arm Cove residents who like riding their bikes in the local area but don't want to ride on the motorway.
  • there are lots of Council roads in the paper subdivision that are good for walking and cycling. perhaps Council could publish a map of these roads and put up signs with street names and directions to help people navigate them without getting lost.

So if you have any ideas on walking or cycling tracks for our area, use the link above to get on to the Council website and Have Your Say.

PROPOSED EXTENSION OF GOOREENGI ROAD SOUTH ALONG SIDE THE PAC HIGHWAY TO MILL HILL CLOSE AND TAREAN ROAD
Cycling residents of North Arm Cove have no route for access to food shopping, medical, pharmacy or post office facilities without using the motorway to Karuah. Not too long ago, a cycling resident was nearly killed on the motorway in an attempt to do the round trip to Karuah. All but about 600m of the track is already made up. Simply by joining the ends of the existing paved sections would encourage and enable a growing number of villagers to get on their bikes and cycle to Karuah.
