With the water truck travelling up and down the streets of North Arm Cove, you could be forgiven for thinking that we have had a dry year in 2025. The opposite is the case. In 2025, the rain gauges around the Cove have recorded between 2200ml and 2777ml. The yearly average is about 1350ml, so we have had a very wet year with double the average annual rainfall. The problem is that most of it fell before August, with all the gauges recording over 2000ml by August and not much since then.
So why the variation in the rainfall readings in the Cove? Different parts of the Cove get different passing showers and different intensities of rainfall. Also, our gauges are not always well maintained and accurate. They can be affected by position, cleanliness, spiders, and internet outages. If anything, these problems reduce the amount of rainfall recorded, not increase it, and all gauges in the Cove showed that 2025 was a very wet year.
