Mid Coast Council announces elections are postponed to 2021

MidCoast Council mayor, David West has supported the move to postpone September's local government elections until 2021. If you have missed this news you can read about the statement here. Great Lakes Advocate 3 April

The elections were scheduled for the 12 September 2020. A significant development in the way that Councillors represent thier areas is the introduction of Community Plans. At the Southern Area Reference Group meeting held 6 March community representatives were informed that Community Plans will be the agreed funding and works priorities for the villages and towns.

Flu Vaccine Now Available

Karuah Medical Centre is one of the website sponsors. They now have both funded and unfunded influenza vaccines for those unable to find it elsewhere.

We have received word from the Karuah Medical Centre that the funded influenza vaccine is now available.

The following categories that are of higher risk are eligible for the funded influenza vaccine:

all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over

· all children aged 6 months to less than 5 years of age

· all individuals aged 5 years and over with medical risk conditions

· pregnant women (influenza vaccine can be given at any stage of pregnancy)

· people aged 65 years...

Karuah Newsagency and Post Office

The proprietor, Jenny Webb, has asked us to note that she has been obliged to change her hours of service.

The Post Office will be open from 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. The Newsagency will now be open from 6:30 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday, from 7 am to 12 noon on Saturday, and from 7 am to 11 am on Sunday. Parcels can be collected during normal Post Office hours and also now on Saturday and Sunday.

The Tennis Court Is Closed

I have just listened on the ABC to a dozen or more medical people - nurses, doctors, specialists - plead with us to stay at home. They are in the front line together with teachers, shop assistants, bus drivers, police, etc.

They deserve our fullest attention and support and so I have decided that the court must close until further notice.

Warning To WhatsApp Users

I have been advised:

A video may be released tomorrow on WhatsApp called Martinelli. Don't open it. It hacks your phone and nothing will fix it. If you receive a message to update WhatsApp to WhatsApp Gold, don't click to accept. Don't open a video called "Dance of the Pope". It's a virus that reformats your phone.

I don't have personal experience of any of these but I understand the threats to be genuine. One virus at a time is more than I can handle.

Developing a Community Plan for North Arm Cove Locality

North Arm Cove is developing a Community Plan. All stakeholders in the locality, Non Urban Land Holders, Village People, and Rural Land Holders must be involved. All groups such as community committees, and groups should also be involved. I have provided a link to the draft plan that was started after a survey of village residents last year.
This is only a start as we need to add all the works requested that are existing....only a few.

The Community Engagement Team from Council will be available in April to visit the representatives of groups in the locality, and...
