Once again the Cove community has been fortunate to receive a small grant to improve facilities in the Cove. Each year Great Lakes Council invites applications from community groups for funding from its Community Grants program. With just $30,000 available the Council received 56 applications this year seeking a total funding of almost $90,000. The Residents Association was one of the 34 successful applicants with $1000 towards the replacement of the rusted water tank in Casuarina Reserve.
Over the past year or so Casuarina Reserve has been given a face-lift and has become an increasingly popular place for picnics and just relaxing. Investigations last year, as to whether the old tank which had been unusable for some years could be fixed, showed that it really needed to be replaced. The new tank will be fitted with a vandal-proof spring-loaded tap with downpipes from the adjacent bus shelter. The cost of the tank and associated work is estimated at around $1750 so the Residents Association will be looking towards the generous Cove community for help in covering the funding shortfall.
The YESS initiative was also successful with a $300 grant from Council.
The Great Lakes Council's Community Grants Program is a wonderful idea and the Residents Association acknowledges the contribution Council has made to both these Cove initiatives.
