At the pre-Christmas Council meeting, a further thirteen North Arm Cove non-urban lots were acquired by Council in lieu of outstanding rates. As part of the same Council meeting, the newly elected Council in effect confirmed the practices regarding non-urban land that were followed by the old Great Lakes Council: Wait until desperate and disillusioned owners give up and then resume their property . The relevant extract taken from the Agenda papers is copied below.

The NSW Government uses the term " paper subdivisions" in reference to these non-urban lots. The current policies of Government and Council only serve...

Glenn Handford, only recently confirmed as MidCoast Council's General Manager, tendered his resignation at yesterday's Council Meeting (20 December).  Glenn Handford is apparently leaving for a position in the private sector. Rumours have been in existence for at least six months that Mr Handford would not remain with the new Council for long following the completion of the merger process and the election of the new Council. Some of those persistent rumours had even named the company that he was expected to join.

In the latest Ministerial reshuffle announced yesterday (19 December) our local Federal MP, Dr David Gillespie, has been allocated the role of Assistant Minister for Children and Families, part of the Social Services Portfolio. For the past year and half Gillespie had been contributing to the Health Portfolio as Assistant Minister for Health.

"I have very much enjoyed working with the various health stakeholders and my department in developing new policies to address the maldistribution of Australia’s health workforce" Dr Gillespie said. "As the Minister now responsible for Children and Families within the Social Services portfolio headed up by...
