Wow! What a fantastic review of Cove history, something that will be appreciated for generations to come. Congratulations Doug this contribution to posterity is priceless. Having known you for decades I am not at all surprised by the painstaking research and meticulous presentation which has made this book so readable. Congratulatiions to you Kath also for enduring the endless hours where Doug's head was "in another place"! Altogether a fascinating book.

Voyager - Wikipedia Artists Impression

Our village celebrates 50 years of community support on this day this year. But did you know that this same day is also the 40th anniversary of the launch of the Voyager 2 spacecraft?

Scientists realised in the 1960s that the outer planets would be perfectly aligned in the late 70s for a single probe to to visit them all. Two satelites were built, but Voyager 2 was the first to be launched - on August 20th 1977.

Voyager 2 travelled about 640,000,000 km over two years to its first encounter which was Jupiter. It continued on to...

We understand that there is to be a second directions hearing in the Land and Environment Court on September 1st. This is platform provided for the two parties, the owner of the land and the MidCoast Council, to convince the court that they have reconciled differences and agreed to a path toward future co-operation so that further legal process is not necessary.

As you will know, on the insistance of the court, the owner, Mr Lee, appointed a 'go-between' to take a negotiation role in this process. He has been familiarising himself with the history non-compliances and regulatory abuses...

More volunteers needed.dougkSun, 06/08/2017 - 8:32pm

Our new, wider, ride-on mower has arrived. The new shed is in place behind the Hall. Nine locals have already received the required induction training - last Tuesday (1 August) from MidCoast Council's Steve Howard. This new mower is being shared with Carrington and its larger size will certainly make the work of mowing the village's reserves a much easier task.

Nine volunteers trained is a good start but what we really need is a few more willing hands to share the load. Steve Howard is happy to undertake the necessary training. We will need to keep the reserves...

Although i am now an ex-resident, I still take a keen interest in the happenings at NAC. As a boat ramp has been a No.1 priority for residents since Adam was a pup, maybe the time has come to take matters into your own hands. I suggest that NACRA appoint a person(s) to gain individual quotes for the installation of a boat ramp at Medina Bay. I have no doubt that the cost will be less that Council's estimate. When the new council is elected it may be possible to gain approval to go ahead, albeit with Council acting as project manager. Am I living in LaLa Land?

Former Greater Taree City Councillor, Peter Epov, today called for an independent review of the MidCoast amalgamation saying that he has serious reservations about the success of the amalgamation experiment, and the ability of the new Council to effectively service the ratepayers and residents of the new Local Government Area.

A change.org petion has been set up by non-urban land owners frustrated that they are obliged to continue to pay rates on blocks of land for which no services are provided and on which they cannot build. In some cases, they cannot even access their land thanks to the poor state of the non-urban roads. Council has, over the years, become the owner of hundreds of these lots as other owners have given up in despair.

Between 1919 and 1922, Stroud Council had approved subdivisions involving many thousands of lots around the North Arm Cove peninsular...

Mooring a runabout is costlypeterfSun, 09/07/2017 - 5:35pm

As North Arm Cove residents come to terms with MidCoast Council’s decision not only to reject the proposed boat ramp at Medina Bay but also to rule out a public boat ramp being constructed anywhere else in the village area, those keen to get on the water need to consider other options,

One involves investigating the practicality of mooring a small runabout in the Cove waterway. The viability of mooring a boat has been enhanced by the recent completion of official dinghy launch ramps at Casuarina Park and Water Street. Some residents also keep and launch dinghies at Medina...

It was standing room only at the Community Centre yesterday (Saturday 17 June) for a Public Meeting to discuss the implications of the DA proposal for a private quarry at Bundabah. Well in excess of a hundred people from the Cove, Bundabah, Pindimar and further afield listened intently to a detailed presentation of the history of the site and the very concerning discrepancies between the content of the DA proposal and the known facts.

After an extensive Q&A-and-comments session, a sea of hands showed overwhelming support for a motion that this meeting calls upon Council to reject Development Application...

Paying for emergency servicespeterfSun, 04/06/2017 - 4:42pm

The proposed introduction of a new Fire and Emergency Services Levy has been put on hold with the NSW Government arguing that new modelling has indicated that the new system would have had an unexpected and unfair impact on a range of land owners, including the owners of some commercial and industrial property. It is even possible the levy will be abandoned altogether.

This is great news for those who own non-urban blocks in North Arm Cove as they would have been hit by at least the base rate of $100 even though the land’s value is very low...
